Facial Skin Resurfacing
The Ellipse Juvia Laser
If you have ever wished you could turn back the clock, reverse your sun damage; smooth out your skin tone, correct uneven pigmentation, then laser resurfacing may be an option for you. Dr. Young has been utilizing laser skin resurfacing treatments for nearly two decades. The advances in the technology in this field are constantly improving. CO2 lasers have been the gold-standard for resurfacing treatments for 20 years. This is because they are able to remove the outer layers of skin while heating the underlying tissues. This stimulates the production of new collagen which improves the tone and texture of your skin over time. The Ellipse Juvia offers the latest in fractional resurfacing technology for skin rejuvenation, reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, improvement in skin texture, redness, pigmentation and acne scarring. Juvia harnesses the proven power of traditional CO2 lasers in a more gentle way, minimizing the recovery process and speeding up the healing process. This is an excellent option for a busy lifestyle that wants noticeable results with minimal downtime.
Often one treatment is enough, but this really depends on the level of sun-damage to your skin and your personal treatment goals.
Please contact Dr. Young and his staff for your consultation and to see if you are a candidate for this treatment.
Spider Veins of Face and Legs
VersaPulse Laser
The word LASER is an acronym for Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation. VersaPulse lasers use an intense beam of light to gently remove unwanted, damaged, or diseased cells without harming the surrounding healthy cells. The VersaPulse laser's energy is delivered in short adjustable pulses, which minimizes bruising.
Whether you are a man or a woman, you may have noticed fine little red veins on the nose, chin or cheeks that did not used to be there. They are telangieclasias or facial spider veins and they appear on both men and women as a normal part of aging. Spider veins are wavy thin reddish purple veins that are visible on the legs. Often they are clustered on the thigh or below the knee. Spider veins are telangiectasias that affects as many as 80% of all women as they grow older and a large percentage of men too. They can also result from pregnancy, childbirth, birth control pills, estrogen replacement therapy, sun damage, the skin condition called rosacea, and even corticosteroids. Telangiectasias on the face can be an esthetic problem that makeup usually does not cover adequately. Telangiectasias on the legs may make you reluctant to wear a bathing suit or a pair of shorts.
How many treatments are required?
This depends on the size, location, depth and color of your lesion. Spider veins on the face and age spots generally do well with one or two treatments, while darker or deeper birthmarks may require additional treatments. Port wine stains and hemangiomas usually experience satisfactory results from laser treatments, however as many as six to eight treatment sessions may be required. Treatments should be placed 4 to 8 weeks apart to allow your body to remove the maximum amount of pigment cells. You will continue to see a lightening of your lesion after each treatment as your body disposes of the pigment cells.
Tattoo Removal
VersaPulse Laser
If you have a tattoo, you are not alone. An estimated 20 million Americans do. If you
want it removed, you are also not alone. About half of those with tattoos report that they would now like their tattoo to disappear, but without a disfiguring scar left in its wake. Laser technology has made great strides in eliminating tattoos, so this may be a good time to seriously consider tattoo removal. Everything from small single color tattoos to large multicolored ones can now be significantly faded, if not completely erased, by the beams of light that the VersaPulse laser produces. Also, there is little risk of scarring or loss of pigmentation that other lasers and technologies can cause.
Removing a small tattoo of one color may take one or two 30 minute laser treatments; multicolored tattoos may take several sessions, depending on their size and type of ink. The sessions are usually spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart and are performed in our office. The laser treatment itself feels like numerous snaps with a rubber band. Most patients do not require anesthesia during the procedure, but topical or local anesthesia is provided for those who do. Immediate after-affects may include some redness, light crusting or tenderness, all of which disappear in a short time.
VersaPulse Laser
We are all born with birthmarks, even if it is only a few freckles, and some of us are born with more prominent pigmented lesions, such as cafe au lait spots that can be cosmetically troublesome if on the face, neck or some other visible area. Age spots too can be cosmetically bothersome. They are caused by excessive exposure to the sun and most adults eventually get them. Some women acquire unwanted pigmented lesions from the hormonal changes caused by pregnancy or birth control pills. The VersaPulse laser technology has revolutionized treatments so that many pigmented lesions can be virtually erased.
Hair Removal
LightSheer Diode Laser
This is the most advanced treatment for removing dark, unwanted hair. LightSheer Diode Laser is the first laser to be cleared by the FDA for permanent hair reduction. This laser targets the pigment located in the hair follicle and shaft. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle and this energy is converted to heat which results in damage to the hair follicle. We have treated hundreds of patients and find the laser very effective and produces long-term results.
